Everyone in student affairs knows that the spring semester, and primarily April, feels like the longest part of the year. Between honor receptions, end of year events, staff hiring, SGA elections and student “spring behavior,” it doesn’t seem like we get time for ourselves, or occasionally our own thoughts.
This spring has been particularly challenging for me as the unknowns of the consolidation vote hang over my head. I have held true to the decision by the steering committee that there should be no campaigning for or against consolidation, and I honestly feel okay with that. The information is out there for members to see, read, reflect and vote. I just hope that they do.
On a conference call on Friday I learned of a number of colleagues who haven’t voted yet, and although I was surprised that they haven’t, I guess I probably shouldn’t have been – this hasn’t been as all-encompassing for others as it has been for me.
We know now that the earliest we will have information on the results will be the 27th of April – this gives time for mail ballots to be counted and the votes verified. Both the ACPA and NASPA Boards will be on separate conference calls at the same date and time to hear the results.
So as April is hectic and crazy with all that happens normally, I ask that you encourage those that haven’t voted to take time to review the information available and vote if they want to ensure that their voice is heard.
